EUROPEAN CHAMBER OPERA: A HISTORY

1991 Stefan Paul Sanchez forms the European Chamber Opera

Bastien und Bastienne and Serva Padrone performed in Ciutadella, Menorca to celebrate the refurbishment of the Teatro es Borne.

1992 Echo performs 'Il Trovatore' for the Memorial Opera in memory of Freddie Mercury at The Banqueting Hall, Whitehall before transferring to the Bloomsbury Theatre, London.
Montserrat Caballe becomes the patron of the company.

1993 'Il Trovatore' and 'The Magic Flute' performed internationally in private venues, embassies, palaces and stately homes, including Government House, Hong Kong.


1994 Echo becomes associated with The Holland Park Festival. London performing 'The Marriage of Figaro'.

Recording of 'Il Trovatore' released.

New commissioned piece for children, 'Mind Over Matter', by Antony Pitts is performed at The Great Conservatory, Syon House in association with The Paul O'Gorman Foundation and Glaxo Wellcome.


1995 Echo tours to Singapore and returns to Hong Kong with a new production of 'Cosi fan Tutte'.
'La Traviata' and 'Cenerentola' performed at Holland Park Festival.

Stefan Paul Sanchez becomes Artistic Director of Holland Park Opera and honoured with Associate of The Royal Academy of Music for services to Opera.

'Tosca' performed at the Epsom Playhouse, while performances for charity fundraising increase to include The St John's Ambulance,The Elton John Aids Foundation, The Prince's Trust, British Red Cross, Notting Hill Housing Trust.


1996 Productions of 'Carmen', directed by Terry JohBates and 'Don Giovanni', directed by Carlos Wagner
for The Holland Park Festival.
Echo performs at the Buxton Opera House. and the company begins to branch out into UK regional theatres.

1997 UK Tour of 'La Boheme', 'Die Fledermaus and 'Don Pasquale', performing at major opera and music festivals. including Brighton, Chelmsford, Cheltenham, Huddersfield, King's Lynn, Poole, Stevenage and Thaxted.
A new production of 'The Magic Flute' directed by Robert Chevara and conducted by Andrea Quinn is presented at The Holland Park Festival along with Jamie Hayes' production of 'Don Pasquale' conducted by Jonathan Tilbrook.
EchoReverb is established to present new commissions, music theatre and contemporary opera, with productions of 'Bernstein's Trouble in
Tahiti' and Bach's 'Coffee Cantata' at the BAC Opera Festival. London.

1998 Performances of 'The Magic Flute' and 'Don Pasquale' at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Guildford
and 'La Boheme' and 'Die Fledermaus' at the Theatre
Royal, Windsor, and Richmond Theatre.
Echo performs 'The Magic Flute' as the first opera performance at Le Preau. Theatre de Vire in France.
Echo returns to Hong Kong to premiere a new production of 'Madama Butterfly' for the charity 'Playright' and presents The 'Magic Flute' at the Milan Festival. A new production of 'I Quattro Rusteghi' by Ermanno Wolf Ferrari is performed for Venice in Peril Fun
Echo's production 'Lucia di Lammermoor' plays to 100% capacity audience at Holland Park Theatre, London.
National tour of 'Stepping out with Strauss' - A Viennese Strauss Gala.

1999 National tour of 'La Traviata', directed by Terry John Bates.
echoReverb presents 'Three Counts in a Bar', conceived and directed by Darren Royston for a commission from The Austrian Cultural Institute. UK Tour of 'Stepping out with Strauss' and 'A Policeman's Lot is not a Happy One', Echo's newly devised Gilbert and Sullivan show.
Performances of 'Carmen', La 'Boheme' and 'La Traviata' throughout UK Regional Theatres. from Cornwall to Carlisle.

2000 Performances of 'Tosca' and 'The Barber of Seville' (in a newly commisioned translation) in new venues including the Sheffield Lyceum. Theatre Royal Norwich, Theatre Royal Bath and the Jersey Opera House. where echo are invited to perform in the opening gala.

EchoConsort performs Handel's baroque masque 'Acis and Galatea' in the Great Conservatory. Syon House.
echo take to the high seas as c
